Also known as HOAVI_HOEPD, HPDFL43_17171. The exact role played by hoefavidin in the host organism is still obscure. Forms a strong non-covalent complex with biotin and 2-iminobiotin. Homodimer (PubMed:26126731). A later study shows that hoefavidin can exist in different homooligomeric states: dimer, tetramer, hexamer and octamer (PubMed:29720692). The X-ray structure of the intact hoefavidin reveals unique crystal packing generated by an octameric cylindrical structure wherein the C-terminal segments of each monomer are introduced into the entrance of the biotin-binding site of an adjacent non-canonical monomer (PubMed:26126731).
