DESCRIPTION

Also known as CP51B_ASPFU, cyp51B. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenase involved in the biosynthesis of ergosterol (PubMed:18191972, PubMed:26459890, PubMed:29439966). The existence of several duplicated sterol 14-alpha demethylase genes could be a good strategy to modulate the composition and fluidity of the cell membrane (By similarity). Catalyzes C14-demethylation of erburicol to produce 4, 4, 24-trimethyl cholesta-8, 24(28)-dien-3-beta-ol (PubMed:18191972, PubMed:26269599). Shows a slight substrate preference toward eburicol over obtusifoliol (PubMed:26269599). As a target of azole drugs, plays a crucial role in azole susceptibility (PubMed:12543662, PubMed:26269599, PubMed:28461309, PubMed:29894182).
