DESCRIPTION

Also known as TRPC5_HUMAN, TRPC5, TRP5. Thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Has also been shown to be calcium-selective (By similarity). May also be activated by intracellular calcium store depletion. Mediates calcium-dependent phosphatidylserine externalization and apoptosis in neurons via its association with PLSCR1 (By similarity). Interacts with TRPC4AP (By similarity). Homotetramer and heterotetramer with TRPC1 and/or TRPC4 (PubMed:12032305). Interacts with SLC9A3R1/NHERF (By similarity). Interacts with MX1 and RNF24 (PubMed:15757897, PubMed:17850865). Interacts (via C-terminus) with CABP1 (PubMed:15895247). Interacts with SESTD1 (via the spectrin 1 repeat) (PubMed:20164195). Interacts with PLSCR1 (PubMed:32110987).
